07-06-19 More dwellings for mail rowers |
The school will be rebuilt and there can not
be as many bed places as usual there. Postroddsföreningen wants help to get
more dwellings for our Finish guests.
The boats arrive late Saturday afternoon and on arrival they get dinner from Postroddsföreningen. Then they are transported to their dwellings. During the evening there are activities in Byviken. On Sunday morning breakfast is served by Postroddsföreningen and then the rowers go home. Many families on Holmön offer bed places to rowers and have this way tied close bonds of friendship with some of our Finnish guests. They regularly care for the same rowing team and look forward to meat them every year. Do you want to try to care for some rowers? They have their own sleeping bags so you only have to supply a simple bed place, e.g., a mattress on the floor, for one night. If you have a shower, it will be appreciated, but showers in Byviken will also be OK. If you want to learn to know some of our Finnish guests a bit closer, contact Gustaf or Lena Egnell, tel 090-55169. |

07-06-13 Better mobile telephone coverage |
Yesterday new antennas for the mobile telephone network were mounted at the mast on Strandberget. The new antennas are facing south and west. This means that the mobile telephone coverage in the southern parts of the islands has been improved. A simple test this evening showed that there is acceptable coverage all the way down to Rössgrundet even if the mobile phones were inside a car (1-2 dots on a scale of 5 dots). outside the car the coverage was better (2-3 of 5 dots). | ||||||

The closure of W Kvarken is now withdrawn. An
ice track will be broken during Monday 19 mars to open the ferry track.
There are some problems with the ferry and if the broken part can be repaired a tack out from Norrfjärden will be broken up during Monday. However, if a new part will be needed it can be delivered first on Tuesday and the track can then be broken up on Wednesday at the earliest. |

Vägverket Färjerederiet has now got an unique
possibility, via Försvarets materielverk and AMF 1 at Berga, to demonstrate
a heavy hovercraft on site for the track between Norrfjärden och Holmön. The
hovercraft, a Griffon 8100, is in performance and size a possible hovercraft
for the Holmön traffic, of course adapted for passengers. [Läs mer

Today, the Ice Patrol found that the ice in
Norrfjärden has been further deteriorated. They have therefore stopped
sticking out the snowmobile track. There is no real cold weather
expected presently and the snowmobile
track will not be opened during the school winter holiday.
The traffic will be maintained with helicopter on Monday, Thursday and Friday and with hydrocopter on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. |

inside of Pannan that is thinner than 20 cm. This mean that the snowmobile

Sjöfartsverket has in a letter for
consideration proposed that a number of lighthouses along the coast should
be closed down. The criteria is that when travelling with boat along the
coast at least one lighthouse should always be visible at all time. Around
Holmön they propose that the lighthouses on Stora Fjäderägg and Holmögadd
should be closed down. The motive is that the lighthouses are not necessary
for commercial shipping today. Only Bergudden Lighthouse will remain around
