Extra boat to Holmön
The passenger boat Öfararen will accompany Helena Elisabeth as extra boat on the Holmön track during the two last weeks in august. The background is that Helena Elisabeth will be down classed from 173 to 59 passengers on August 15. Öfararen that can take 60 passengers, will run as complement. From September, Trafikverkets färjerederi (the ferry shipping) expect that Helena Elisabeth alone will have enough capacity for all who wish to go on the Holmön track. 10-06-30 |

Information from Ferry Shipping (Färjerederiet)
The ferry. The ferry is now repaired, inspected and approved for traffic. The annual bottom inspection has also been made with approved result. The hovercraft. The Shipping Inspection (Sjöfartsinspektionen) has now approved the hovercraft for traffic. It is classified as a ship under 20 metric tonnes and is approved for 12 passengers (i.e., the same class as for the Slop). The staff is also approved to operate the hovercraft. The Ferry Shipping (Rederiet) has chosen to wait for changes in the regulations for the hovercraft before registering it in the Ship register and to put it in service. This will be made as soon as possible so the hovercraft can be the complement it is intended to be. Norrfjärden. Robertsfors Municipality are preparing a proposal to change the plan (detaljplan) for the area around the harbour in Norrfjärden. Many activities have to share the area. The Ferry Shipping (Rederiet) wants to separate the car and passenger flows when the new ferry comes into service. The marina needs to be dredged. Illumination is needed from the parking lot to the jetty. A reasonable turning area for busses and cars and more parking space are needed etc. In the same time, the habitants in Norrfjärden do not want to much encroachment. The ferry tours to Tuesday evening 4 May are cancelled due to repair work. They expect that next tour will be th17.30 tour on Tuesday afternoon. The hovercraft could not do the cargo tour. They believe that there is a crack in the bottom with a leak into the double bottom. That, together with worn skirts on one side in the aft, makes it difficult for the hovercraft to lift properly in the aft. Work is ongoing to fix this problem. The ferry traffic The ferry has now broken up a track out from Norrfjärden passing the outer green buoy. Kronö departed from Holmsund this morning at 7.00 to assist to break a track for the ferry from the red buoy to in Norrfjärden to Byviken. As soon as the track has been established, the ferry traffic will commence. Booking Due to all problems with bookings, it has been decided that private persons will not be allowed to make bookings for cars or trailers on the ferry with the ferry staff. Only bookings from businessmen and handicraftsmen on Holmön will be accepted by the ferry staff. Private persons will be allowed to bring cars or trailers when space is available. The Ferry Shipping is ISO certified and all its vessels needs to be ISO-certified. This mean that the new hovercraft will not be used in regular traffic according to the schedule until certified. Until then the Kvarken Express will keep up the traffic to Holmön. Book with Peter as usual on telephone 070-6908503. The snowmobile will be exchanged with an ATV with snow tracks instead of wheels to improve the practicability on the successively deteriorating conditions on the ice. The hovercraft will run complimentary tours when good weather and secure conditions. For the continuing traffic plans are to break the ice with assistance from icebreaker and Kronö in the middle of April and to blast the ice in Norrfjärden to open a track for the ferry. UmEva Informs: Yesterday evening, a leak in the water supply occurred and it has not yet been localised. This means that the water plant has not been able to keep up the supply pressure and some consumers have been out of water. We have no adjusted the supply to maximum capacity and all consumers now have water although with reduced pressure. Our staff will follow the development during the day and weekend and take other measures to supply water if necessary. The consumers are urged to reduce their consumption as much as possible. SRF-meeting This weekend there was the annual meeting of the Federation of Archipelagos Organisations (SRF). Representatives for SRFs 16 member organisations, of which HUF is one, gathered at the Lovén Centre (former Tjärnö Marine Research Station) on Tjärnö close to Strömstad. Representatives for HUF was Lena Egnell, Tora and Olle Nygren. Moreover, Viktoria Granström participated as representative from SURF for Holmöns youngsters (see other notice about SURF). The meeting comprised, except the usual annual meeting items, also an introductory presentation of the Lovén Centre and the Koster Sea National Park. The meeting was ended during Sunday morning with a presentation of methods and strategies for how a local society actively can work with authorities to develop a basis for an extended development plan that meets the needs and desire for a sustainable development. Kvarken Express
The Kvarken Express, here outside the country
store, is a snowmobile train with a pulling snowmobile and two 4-seat sledges
and a cargo sledge. The coachwork to the front sledge is a stiff
sandwich-construction, similar to a caravan. It stand on an ordinary snowmobile
sledge chassis with two skis. Inside there are 4 low chairs and behind the
coachwork there is a gas heating package fixed to the chassis. The second sledge
is a Nila sledge with fold up cover. This sledge do not have any heating and
inside there are two 2-seat sofas with upholstery and
better seat height than in the front sledge. It is, however, more difficult for
a person that has hard to move to step into the Nila sledge, since one need to
step over the bottom part to get inside. In the back of the train there is a
cargo sledge for goods. |

This information is given at this moment from Vägverket 1. The ferry is cancelled for the season 2. Vägverket has ordered helicopter to Friday afternoon, but, according to the information, there will only be one tour to fly the school children home 3. No helicopter flights during the weekend 4. Helicopter transports are ordered for next week, but only to fly school children 5. A snowmobile and sledge for 6 pass with heating will be supplied by Svevia to Peter Tornberg, who will run the winter traffic when the snowmobile track is opened. According to VV:s information, this snowmobile transport will only take school children.
Now when Vägverket has
the full responsibility for the winter traffic, there are some questions
unanswered:

The Ferry
This morning the ferry departed from Norrfjärden at 8. After about 1 hours runtime, they had not reached the green buoy, i.e. about 1/10-th of the route to Holmön. The speed was 0,1 - 0,3 knots in comparison with normal 9 knots. The snow has formed meter-high dunes and drifted into the ferry track. In the track the snow forms a viscous slush that sticks to the hull of the ferry. It is like running in syrup. Hopefully there is less snow out in Kvarken so it becomes easier for the ferry. 10-01-28 |

It is about 20 m/s in mean wind and up to 30 m/s in the gusts out in V Kvarken. It is heavy snowfall and an intensive snow drift decreases the visibility to only a few meters from time to time. The ferry tours this afternoon Wednesday 27/1 from Norrfjärden at 15.30 and 17.30 and from Holmön at 16.30 and 18.30 are cancelled due to the hard weather. Although the ferry departed early from Norrfjärden this morning there are delays. The morning tour from Norrfjärden took 2½ h and arrived in Byviken at 8.00. The return trip took about 1 h 10 min. The tour from Norrfjärden that should have departed at 8.00, did not depart until 9.30 and is expected to arrive to Holmön at about 10.45.
